Embracing spring on Madeira
Photo story Portugal

May spring come.

Madeira is called "The Island of Eternal Spring" and in Germany it's famous for retired couples who overwinter there or hiking enthusiasts who tend to take it easy. So much for the prejudices (well, some are certainly true), but the island has indeed a lot to offer.

I’m rather in a sentimental mood right now. I left Madeira this morning and I miss the island at once. I guess that means I liked it there. And yes, it has, very much so.

As always, a picture is worth a thousand words, so here we go:

I read that the island would have associations with Bali and dismissed it as a ridiculous thought. But the truth is, that at one point or another you really feel those Southeast-Asian vibes. There is the lush of (sub)tropical vegetation with all the ferns, bird-of-paradises and palm trees, there are the picturesque waterfalls, the volcanic mountains and the blue sea all around… in short: it’s a dream!
